PROTECTING YOURSELF AGAINST CARD FRAUD

Card fraud is ever present. Here is what you should do to protect yourself:

• Sign new cards as soon as you receive them.
• Keep your card account numbers and personal identification number (PIN#) in a confidential place and separate from your cards.
• Check your cards periodically to make sure none are missing.
• Destroy and dispose of copies of receipts, airline tickets, travel itineraries, anything that displays your card numbers.
• Memorise your PIN.
• Check out unfamiliar companies by calling your local consumer protection agency.
• Don't provide information that you're uncomfortable giving.
• NEVER give anyone the password that you use to log on to your online account or Internet Service Provider.
• Don't provide financial account information unless you are paying for a purchase using that account.

PHISHING

Phishing is an identity-theft scam that uses "spoofed" or fake emails and websites to trick people into giving out personal information, such as card numbers, usernames and passwords. A phishing scam will use this page to capture any information that you provide, then sell or use the information for malicious purposes.

Following are some ways to avoid becoming a victim of a phishing scam:

• Always be suspicious of e-mails asking for sensitive information.
• Never respond to an e-mail request for personal information.
• Never follow the links in an e-mail you suspect might be phishing.
• Always make sure your operating system, antivirus software, and browser are up to date.

Reporting a phishing scam: 

If you feel you have been a victim of a Phishing scam, please send an email to[email protected]. Include details such as the URL of the website used, a copy of the phishing email received.

SKIMMING

Skimming Fraud is the theft of card-holders PIN & card information used in a legitimate transaction. The thief can use a small electronic device (skimmer) attached to a ‘Point of Sale’ (POS) Device to store card numbers. Instances of skimming fraud can also occur at an ATM, whereby the fraudster places a skimming device within the ATM to capture card details.

To avoid being a victim of ATM ‘Skimming Fraud’ card-holders should always ‘shield’ (cover) their hand when keying in their PIN.
Recently-made ATMs now often display a picture of what the slot and keypad are supposed to look so that consumers can identify foreign devices attached.

If your card is lost/stolen, email us at [email protected] to request a new card.
If you still have your card but fraudulent purchases have been made, email [email protected].

3D SECURE

At Prepaid Financial Services we want to ensure that your online purchases are as safe from fraud as possible. As a result, we have teamed up with Mastercard to bring you 3D Secure.

3D Secure is a free online security service that has been created to help guard your prepaid Mastercard against unauthorised transactions. 3D Secure works by using a password that you create as your unique online identifier. You then use your 3D Secure Password to validate online transactions with participating online retailers. This helps to protect you from unauthorised use when spending online.

How do I activate 3D Secure?

You will be required to activate 3D Secure when spending at participating online retailers. The activation process is simple and quick and should only happen once - all you have to do is verify your identity by entering a few identifying pieces of information, and then you create your 3D Secure Password that you will submit when prompted on your future online purchases.
